香港作家西西在前年底逝世，政府一個高官發文悼念，竟寫出這樣的英文：
(He) was sadden today (December 18) over the passing of renowned author Cheung-yin, and extended deepest condolences to her family.
He said, "Cheung-yin had devoted her whole life to the creation of literary works, to the teaching of younger generations, as well as cultivating talents. She was one of the important authors in Hong Kong with outstanding achievements. Her works were artistic and literary, valued to be exemplary. Her passing was a loss to the Hong Kong's literary sector, and we will fondly remember her."
我常說香港人不懂用tense，這就是明證。所以我的新書才要另辟一個chapter專講tense。這個高官已是九龍華仁名校出身，會考英文理應攞A。但這樣的英文，若我是改卷員，他只能拿個D/E。你想想，會考拿八、九優的香港高官尚且如此，那些香港英文老師和學生的英文有多渣可想而知。我會在我的新書分析其錯什麼，有興趣的到時留意。
