前二天,古大師在談in the south of a place(在某地方的南部)和to the south of a place(在某地方的南面) 時,提到另一個用法。他說:

有時,你會看到on the south of a place這說,那是指兩個相接的地方,其一「在某地以南」,例如:China is on(或tothe north of Vietnam(中國位在越南以北)。

on the south of does not sound like sth I would say

I would just say Mexico is south of the US or to the south of the US

For me on the southern border sounds like you are thinking of it as being a point on a line

EL Paso is on the southern border of the US (not sure if that is strictly accurate, but that kind of thing)

看了狐狸先生的答覆,我的感覺是on the south/north of a place不像是地道英語,至少應該不是普遍的說法。

on the east ofto the east of相同,但有"貼近"的含意。
